Investing in Tigard’s Safety and Future
Faster Response. Safer Tigard. Smarter Spending.
In this video, Mayor Hu, Police Chief McDonald, and Public Works Director Rager come together to explain the urgent need for a new, modern facility.
Our current public safety, public works, and emergency operations facilities are outdated and spread across multiple locations. This fragmentation makes it harder for teams to coordinate and slows response during critical moments.

Today, our first responders and the critical equipment they rely on are spread across mutiple locations. It's difficult for police, public works, and emergency teams to coordinate quickly and operate at their best.
A new facility will bring essentail services together in one safe, modern workplace — improving coordination, streamlining operations, and helping our teams respond more quickly when every minute matters.

Tigard’s emergency services facilities were built more than 40 years ago, when our city was much smaller and operational needs were very different. Since then, our population has grown significantly, and modern public safety standards have evolved.
A new facility will replace aging infrastructure with space designed for today’s workforce, technology, and community needs — positioning Tigard to serve residents well into the future.

These buildings do not meet current earthquake safety standards, leaving our responders vulnerable in the event of a disaster.
A new, earthquake-resilient facility will keep our first responders safe during a disaster, ensuring they can continue to serve and protect the community when it's needed most.

Ongoing repairs are costly and inefficient, draining taxpayer funds without addressing the root issues.
Building a new facility now will save money in the long run by eliminating costly repairs and reducing the need for inefficient rental spaces.
